DIY 100 - Up-Cycling: Silver Tipped Flats

Find out how to do this after the jump!

Supplies:

  • I used Krylon Premium Original Chrome Spray Paint which can be bought at most craft and hardware stores
  • My shoes happened to be pointed toed, but any flat or shoe will do
  • Basic masking tape worked perfect for me, but painters tape would work just as well. I used a wider variety so that I didn't have to use as much tape.

Step One:

  • Make sure the area that you are painting is clean and dry
  • Begin with measuring the area of the shoe that you want the silver tipped toe to cover. I found that 1 inch and a bit worked best for my shoes. Place a piece of tape in a straight line across the circumference of the shoe to mark that area.
  • *Make sure that both shoes are the same length and measure multiple times*
  • Tape the rest of your shoes so that when painting you only get silver where you want it.

Step Two:

  • Create an area for spray painting outside and in a warm, dry area.  I did my painting in a box to ensure that the paint stayed there and didn't stray to unwanted areas
  • Do a test with the spray paint to make sure the colour is correct.
  • Begin to spray the first shoe in a continuous motion keeping about 12-14 inches from the surface, or whatever is specified on your spray paint.
  • Put aside and do the next shoe.
  • Let dry for the time specified on paint.
  • If needed do another coat. I did a total of three coats.

Step Three:

  • After letting the shoes dry for a substantial amount of time, I waited 2 hours, you are now ready to remove the tape.
  • Slowing remove the tape.
  • When you reach the painted area go very slowly and pull the tape directly up and away so that any undried paint will stay in the desired area.

Your old/new shoes are now done and ready to wear out.
Enjoy!
